Travel to Culver Alone for Registration

South Bend Regional Airport

South Bend Regional Airport, in South Bend, Indiana, is served by many major airlines and is only a 45-minute bus ride from Culver. Using it avoids the congestion of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Students meeting Culver transportation should proceed to the baggage claim area, where a faculty representative will be waiting approximately one hour before the scheduled bus departure for Culver. South Bend Regional Airport has only one baggage claim area, so it is easy to locate the Culver representative. Students needing Culver transportation should plan to arrive in South Bend no later than 4:30 p.m. eastern time.

The bus will depart for Culver at 5:30 p.m. eastern time. A $50 transportation fee will be charged to the student’s charge account for this bus service. Please note that students planning on taking Culver transportation from the airport will be permitted only two pieces of luggage. All other items should be shipped.

Travel Difficulties

Regardless of the mode of transportation, if there are changes in travel plans, especially cancellations, notify the Student Life Office before the start of the trip.

If you plan to arrive by private aircraft, you have three nearby options:

South Bend Regional Airport in South Bend; Plymouth Airport (uncontrolled) in Plymouth; and Fulton County Airport in Rochester.

O’Hare International

This airport is located in Chicago, approximately 125 miles from Culver. Because of heavy traffic around Chicago, bus transportation to Culver ranges from two-and-a-half to four hours. Students needing Culver transportation should proceed to Terminal 2 in the lower level baggage claim area immediately upon arrival, where Culver faculty members will be waiting at least one hour before the scheduled bus departure for Culver. Students needing Culver transportation should plan to arrive in Chicago no later than 2:00 p.m. central time on their scheduled arrival date. The bus will depart for Culver at 3:00 p.m. central time. A $75 transportation fee will be charged to the student’s charge account for this service. Please note that students planning on taking Culver transportation from the airport will be permitted only two pieces of luggage. All other items should be shipped.

Bus or Train

Students arriving in Chicago by bus or train should take a taxi or airport bus to O’Hare Airport and proceed to Terminal 2, lower level baggage claim area, where Culver faculty members will be waiting at least one hour before the scheduled bus departure for Culver. The Culver bus will depart O’Hare at 3:00 p.m. central time. A $75 transportation fee will be charged to the student’s charge account for this bus service. Students arriving after the designated times will need to find an alternative mode of transportation to the Academies.

Sending Trunks, Baggage & Refrigerated Items

Expressed trunks/baggage should be sent no later than August 1. Trunks/baggage may be sent by UPS direct to:

Please include your child’s name and Culver box number, if known, when addressing trunks/baggage. Do not include a room number as this could delay delivery to the student. Culver does not have refrigeration facilities at the post office and will not be responsible for items needing refrigeration.
