Visitations to Campus and Departure Opportunities for Students

The entire student body will remain on campus for the first six weeks of the school year, after which all students will be allowed one flexible weekend leave opportunity per term. The first opportunity for a flexible weekend leave departure occurs over the Fall weekend of September 24-27, and students are encouraged to take advantage of the set dates for extended leave opportunities throughout the school year:

  • Fall Weekend Leave: September 24-27, 2022
  • Thanksgiving Break Leave: November 19-27, 2022
  • Winter Break Leave: December 17, 2022-January 11, 2023
  • Winter Weekend Leave: February 10-14, 2023
  • Spring Break Leave: March 16-April 2, 2023

In addition to the four flexible and five fixed leave opportunities throughout the school year (roughly every four to five weeks), parents are also authorized to sign their student out on Permit and Parental Overnight Leaves. Permits may be taken outside of a student’s on-campus obligations and expire before closing. Parental Overnight Leaves are an overnight leave with a student’s own parents that concludes before the student’s first obligation the following day. Typically, these are taken on a Friday or Saturday night.

Class Absence Policy

Valuable instructional time is lost when a student misses class for any reason. However, we understand some class absences may be unavoidable.

Students may miss a maximum of three classes per course each term, regardless of the reason for the absence (illness, school trip, leave). Culver will likely not approve any absence if a student has accrued three missed classes in one term.

UNAPPROVED Absences on NON Travel Black Out Dates

Classroom teachers will reflect all unapproved absences in students' PROCESS grades.

UNAPPROVED Absences on Travel Black Out Dates

Unapproved absences on Black Out Dates have significant consequences.

  • Students will receive a 50% (failing grade) for all PERFORMANCE assessments missed on a Black Out Date.
  • Students will not be allowed to reschedule the PERFORMANCE assessment (i.e. quiz, projects, tests, research papers, etc.)
  • The absence will also be reflected in a lower PROCESS grade.

Leaves that are discretionary, meaning that another date might have been chosen, will not be approved on blackout dates.

We appreciate your understanding as these dates are subject to change.

Class Absence due to Illness or emergency

A student may be required to spend supplemental time with the instructor in addition to completing the work that was missed during the absence. Counselors will communicate via email with the Director of Academic Advising when a student misses two or more consecutive days of classes due to illness. Medical leaves must be approved through the Health Center, who in turn will notify the Director of Academic Advising.

Class Absence due to School Sponsored Activities

Students are responsible to notify their instructors of a class absence at least three calendar days in advance. A student may be required to spend supplemental time with the instructor in addition to completing the work that was missed during the absence.
